The “gabare”: a typical boat on the Charente river

La gabare Dame Jeanne

The Cognac Community of Communes, through the construction of a gabare (sailing barge), wished to pay tribute to the men who navigated up and down the river with their heavy wooden boats until the beginning of the 20th century. The replica sailing barge is one of the largest reproductions of a wooden river vessel ever undertaken in France.
